February Reads

What book are you enjoying so far from your February TBR?

.

I’m really enjoying The Alienist by Caleb Carr. The TNT show is based on this book and I wanted to read it before I watched it. I’ve purposely avoided any specific details about the show so I don’t know how close it is to the book but I can say that the book is really good! I’ll have a more detailed review once I’m done, but if you enjoy historical fiction with a dash of true crime, you’ll enjoy this.

.

The other books featured here are books I hope to get to this month and books I didn’t get to finish in January. I’m winding down on It by Stephen King and the feels are too real. I don’t want the Losers Club to die!😢 I’m thoroughly enjoying the Arabic inspired fantasy City of Brass—such gorgeous writing and the folkloric details are my jam! I’m enjoying The Night Circus, but I’m not loving it as much as other people. I don’t think circus stories are for me (I wasn’t a fan of Caraval either), but I’m enjoying the story enough to see how it ends.

.

I’m really eager to read the rest! I’ve got a huge stack of graphic novels from the library I need to catch up on.

.

We had a three day weekend and we have another one coming up. It’s a short week but it feels like it’s taking so long for it to end!

January Reading Progress

How’s your reading progress going this month? Can you believe we’re more than halfway through January? 😳 My reading progress is at it’s slowest ever. By now, I’d have at least finished 3-5 books. I haven’t finished any! I might finish Warcross this weekend though!

.

I’m a little concerned but I did anticipate my reading progress to slow down since I’m trying to focus more on revising my draft. It’s actually really hard not picking up where I left off on my audiobook (all my current reads are so good) during the day and continue reading my books in the evening. Instead I’ve been journaling and working on writing. My goal is to start querying this year, so it’s good that I’m not reading as much, right? RIGHT?! 😳

.

Also, any other notebook addicts out there? How do you use them? If you saw my stories, I picked up some new ones from Daiso. 😁

.

Hope you’re weekend is going well! We’re celebrating my son’s 11th birthday today. He decided he wanted to invite a few friends and hang out. Also, how has eleven years gone by since I had him? I’m not crying. You’re crying!

.

January TBR

Hey, friends! This is a little late, but here’s my January TBR. Since it’s already a week into the month, I’ve started some of these already.

.

I’m buddy reading The Alienist and The Girl With All the Gifts and I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I’m enjoying both of these. If you didn’t see my previous post about Watership Down, (the nature shot I thought would be cool bc it’s a book about rabbits that live in a warren—is it just me that does that when bookstagramming?), check it out! I’m listening to the audiobook with my kids and we’re enjoying it.

.

Warcross and Binti: Home were from December and they probably will be the first books I finish this year. Even though I’m still reading these, I’m loving them! The world building on both books is so unique.

.

Other books on my TBR not pictured: City of Brass, Sorcerer to the Crown, IT, and Autoboyography.

.

What’s on your TBR? Have you set a reading goal for this year?

.

I hope you had a great weekend! My kids go back to school tomorrow and they aren’t too happy about it! 😆 I’m not looking forward to being mommy chauffeur but I do like having a routine.

.

October TBR

My TBR is pretty fluid but I do stay on track for the most part thanks to my reading tracker. And audiobooks–I’ve been able to finish so many books this way! (I’d give you a percentage on my completion rate before and after I started listening to audiobooks, but I’m not going to even pretend that I can math right now. Or ever. But it’s a lot.).

And just so you know, in case you can’t already tell, I will read almost anything (nonfiction is still a struggle for me). YA is my favorite but I also love fantasy (middle grade, YA, and Adult).

.

But in the last two months I’ve branched out into two genres that I haven’t tried–Political thriller and Stephen King. I picked up the Mitch Trapp series by Vince Flynn and so far I’m really enjoying it. And yes, I think Stephen King is his own genre. I’m reading Revival (for the #grimdragon Read Along), IT (buddy read with @zoetzure) and The Drawing of Three (bc I want to know what’s going to happen to Roland). The only writing convention his books conform to is his own distinct style of storytelling and his flawed characters that you can’t help cheering for. You really can’t put King in one genre which is really quite brilliant. (Clearly, I’m still in the honeymoon stage of discovering a new to me author. Let’s see what happens when the gang returns to Derry or Roland gets to the Dark Tower or what’s Reverend Jacob’s sermon going to be before he leaves.)

.

How do you pick your TBR? Have you tried any new to you authors lately that surprised you?

.

Pre-birthday celebration with my sister today–lunch and a book signing! Have a great day!

July TBR

Okay. Where did the weekend go? I swear it was here just a minute ago! Summer needs to slow down and stop rushing through the weekend!.

That’s when I realized I hadn’t posted my July TBR! 😅 The Emperor’s Blades, The Sun is also a Star, and Lord of Shadows are from June that I’m hoping to finish this month. All the rest are buddy reads! I knowww. I usually only do two buddy reads, three if I’m daring each month, but this month, I somehow agreed to seven. 😅 Maybe it was the allure of summer reading and the promise of more free time (I’m donkey laughing at myself for being so naive) that had me saying yes to all the buddy reads this month, but I love buddy reads and I’m enjoying these so far! (And just to clarify, these buddy reads are not happening all at the same time.) Featured is my reading tracker in bullet journal to help me track my reading. Scroll down to see a close up or check out the tag #jennfscurrentreadstracker on Instagram to see more.

.

What’s on your TBR this month? What has been your favorite summer read so far?

.

My son’s 5th birthday is on Tuesday but we’ve been doing all the celebrating this weekend. Today we’re surprising the family to a trip to Chuck E. Cheese. My five year old and three year old have never been and have seen the commercials (Well played, Chuck E. Cheese. Well played.) What are your plans for today?

.

June TBR

Jumping in real quick to share my June TBR! Better late than never right? 😆.

I’ve actually gotten through The Hate U Give, Tell Me Three Things, Thick as Thieves and The Song of Achilles. I’m making great progress on the others!

.

Featured also is my reading tracker. I want to read diversely but also consistently on a daily basis. Having it tracked like this helps with seeing my progress for the month and also which books I gravitate toward. I also included a close-up of my layout, if you’d like a better look. Or you can check out my tag #jennfscurrentreadstracker!

.

It’s the last day of school! Yaaas! But I also realized my kids will be home and so I need to take pictures!! 😆

.

Do you have any favorite reads for this month so far? Do you have vacation plans for the summer?

.

May TBR

I’m a lister, planner, tracker and an unapologetic notebook and pen addict. What does this have to do with books and reading? WELLLLL, I love making TBR lists and using my notebook to plan and track what I read. (If you saw my previous post, I included my disc bound notebook and Genre Tracker layout.) I usually post my reading tracker for the month with my TBR, but I still have to make mine for May. 😅 But I do have my TBR to share! .

Most of these are books from April that I didn’t get to finish. If you saw my previous post for my April Wrap-up, I really pushed myself to finish books before attending the LA Times FOB and Y’all West and meeting the authors. I did finish some books, but started many, so I hope to finish them this month. Top books to finish for this month are Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor and I Darken by Kiersten White @authorkierstenwhite. (Both stories are fantastic so far and both authors are amazing humans! I highly recommend reading both of them!)

.

I also added to my TBR some ARCs that I received at Y’all West @yallwest. The first two I hope to finish are I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo @mauxbot (out May 30) and A Poison Dark and Drowning Book 2 in the Kingdom of Fire series (out September 19) by Jessica Clues @jesscluess. I can’t wait to read these! I met both authors at Y’all West and they were both so nice! Thank you to Fierce Reads @fiercereads and Random House Kids @randomhousekids for the copies!

.

And don’t despair! I will share my Current Reads tracker layout once I’ve set it up!

.

This fabulous wood bookmark is made by my girl Mary @markedbymary. Check out the lovely Andie’s @_halfbloodprincess profile for a rep code! (And really, you should be following both of these amazing humans!)

.

(And YES, I will also be reading ACOWAR. But my copy won’t be hear until Saturday! 😨)

.

For #grimdragon, May Day! TBR
