Harry Potter Reread Update

“Fred, your next,” the plump woman said.

.

“I’m not Fred, I’m George,” said the boy. “Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can’t you tell I’m George?”

.

“Sorry, George, dear.”

.

“Only joking. I am Fred,” said the boy, and off he went.

.

For those of you new here, I listen to audiobooks with my children and we are currently listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It’s the first time for them and a reread for me. It’s been a really wonderful experience so far!

.

Everyone remembers the first time the Golden Trio met on the Hogwarts train, right? Rereading this chapter, I was struck with how much Fred and George makes a splash into the story! Don’t get me wrong, I do remember that these guys were big on pranks and often making jokes, but I had forgotten not only how funny they are, but also how kind they were to Harry when they first met. My kids think they’re hilarious and crack up over their pranks—let’s hope they don’t get inspired by those two!

For #authorappreciationmarch JK Rowling|Wizards!

.

For #marchinbooks18 If you like this, read that—Akata Witch and Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor! It’s darker than Harry Potter, but it still has a great middle grade feel and is a fantastic telling of the Chosen one style story!

.

For #marchlitwrit National Grammar Day: Pet Peeve—I get turned off when writers use drunk and drug as past tense verbs—I drunk coffee from Starbucks (should be drank) or He drug the toy box across the room (should be dragged).

Who’s your favorite twin? What’s another series you’d recommend? Any grammar pet peeves?

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Reread: Part 2

What’s the most memorable “meeting” with a fictional character you’ve had?

.

My earliest memory was with Cinderella—those glass slippers! After that was Wonder Woman—bullet proof cuffs! After that was Scout—she was the first character who loved reading as much as I did. And of course, who can forget meeting Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy for the first time?

.

But I think there’s something unique about encountering characters from the Harry Potter series for the first time. The first time I met Hagrid, I was already an adult but I loved that there was this gentle giant who was thoughtful and fiercely protective of people and animals he cared for. He quickly became one of my favorite characters! If I had been a child when this series was released, there’s no doubt Hagrid would’ve been a character I looked up to.

Fast forward to the present—I’m rereading this series with my children and I’m not going to lie, I was both excited and a little emotional when we got to the part in the story when Hagrid comes to the shack in the sea and finds Harry to deliver his Hogwarts letter to him. After so many years of awful treatment, Harry finally has someone who not only tells him he’s not alone, but let’s him know he’s worthy of being treated decently.

.

My kids really enjoyed meeting Hagrid! If you all don’t mind, I’ll keep you updated on our reading progress! Next post I’ll share their reactions to the Hogwarts express and the Sorting Hat.

.

It’s Friday! For those of you seeing Black Panther either for the first time or seeing it again, TAKE ME WITH YOU 😭😆. I’ve been watching clips, interviews but it’s not the same.

Reread of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling

When you reread a book, do your feelings change toward it?

.

This week my kids and I finally started listening/reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. (We listen to books on the way to school and home). It has been years since I’ve read the series but I enjoyed it and was looking forward to reading it with my kids someday. Someday arrived and it’s been such a fantastic experience so far. We’re only at the beginning but even though I know what happens, it’s like reading it for the first time because my kids are so enthralled with Harry’s world and enjoy discovering new things like he does. I also highly recommend the audiobook which is narrated by Jim Dale. He does a fantastic Hagrid!

.

If you’re curious as to where we are in the story (SPOILERS), Hagrid has taken Harry to the Leaky Cauldron for the first time and everyone is like 🤩 towards Harry.

.

Would you guys be interested in reviews for audiobooks for picture books, middle grade, and young adult books? Or is there anything you’d like to know about audiobooks?

.

Happy Friday, friends! I hope you’ve had a great week and have fantastic plans for the weekend. We have a three day weekend. Monday is a holiday in observance of Lincoln’s birthday. I’m SO glad! This has been a rough week and I need the rest!

.

The Golden Trio print was from the August 2017 @owlcrate.

Happy Halloween!

Oh! Hey! Hi! Happy Halloween! I hope you all had a great time! If you don’t celebrate Halloween, I hope Tuesday was awesome..

Checking in, but if I’m honest, I’m pretty pleased with how this shot turned out but I’ve had it for weeks and realized it would be great for Halloween. Featured here is the illustrated version of Prisoner of Azkaban and the SDCC exclusive Funko for Ocammy. It’s such a gorgeous piece and I realized how similar ocammy is to the illustrations of the hippogyrffs in this book. Occamy is looking on, curious to see a family resemblance.

.

I’ll update more soon. Rest assured things are going well. Just busy! Also, I’ve been reading too. I can’t wait to share.

.

What Halloween candy can you not refuse? If you don’t participate in Trick or Treat, what’s your favorite candy? I love Kit Kats! .

How are you?

Book Challenge: Bookstagram made me do it!

Happy Friday! I can not believe it’s Friday and it’s summer vacation! First day on vacation, we went to the library and went to the park. We’re off to a great start. I just hope I can keep up the momentum! 😁.

So confession: Before bookstagram, I had never heard of Funko Pops! I knowww. I don’t really have an excuse, if you count living in a cave. 😅 And I admit, I was resistant to getting them, rationalizing that I didn’t really need them and I didn’t have room. 😂 But then I got my first Funko from @owlcrate and it was Snape and eventually I also received Luna Lovegood too! I loved them! Then I won more in Juli’s Anniversary @riddlesteashoppe giveaway last year. One of them was Hermione (and she sent tea too!). And pretty much from there, I started collecting them but I’ve noticed the few that I have collected are becoming part of a really awesome girl squad. Hmm. Perhaps I should do a squad post? 🤔

.

Pictured are the House inspired Ravenclaw Wisdom and Gryffindor Bravery teas from @riddlesteashoppe which I highly recommend! Check out Rebecca @bibliosophy_ rep for her discount rep code! Thank you Juli for the Funkos and teas!

.

I hope you’re having a great Friday! What was something bookstagram made you do?

Book Challenge: Fantastic Beasts

Hey! How are you all doing? It’s been so crazy! Spent time recovering from the book festivals I attended, battled with allergies (I lost), and I’ve been trying to catch up with reading and writing too! I’m finally watching Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! I’m enjoying it so much. (NOTE: I loved it!) I admit, I bought these Funkos before I saw the movie and now I need Tina, Newt, and Jacob! Do you all have some fun plans this weekend? I’m looking forward to Mother’s Day. I’ve got part of the morning and afternoon to myself and I’m so excited!.
For #squeakybookishlibrary You’re over me? I like Newt a lot, but I will never be over Harry Potter. 😭

.
For #grimdragon Why is this a thing? Maps and Funkos? I was chatting about maps with Cici @rusticwindow and how before bookstagram, we never really thought about maps. Now, it’s like maps all day, erreday. And then Funkos! I never even heard of Funkos until bookstagram! And then I got my first Funko in an Owlcrate—Snape. I still don’t have that many, but my collection is growing!

.

What did you guys think of Fantastic Beasts? What things do you want all of?

.

Jacob’s quote was from the Fantastic Beasts @nerdy.post.

Book Challenge: Favorite Fictional World

For #watermelanerdsjanuary Favorite Fictional World–I love fantasy, but lately I’ve been partial to stories that blend a little bit of magic or the supernatural into real life which gives the setting a touch of wonder in the possibility of what if. Some of my favorite fictional worlds that do that are Harry Potter (of course), works by Maggie Stiefvater like The Raven Cycle and one of my all-time favorites The Scorpio Races. I also enjoy Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series and Susan Ee’s Angel Falls series. Both are urban settings with angels. I can’t also forget Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter series! My favorite of the series is the Infernal Devices—Shadowhunters in Victorian London! Another favorite fictional world is from my current read by Rae Carson Walk on Earth a Stranger—1849 America when gold was what everyone wanted and the main character Lee has an ability to sense gold. .

This is also for #livelaughbooksjanuary Happy Birthday, Severus Snape! and #bibliophile2017 Favorite Professor/Teacher, Happy Birthday, Severus Snape! Ahhh! It’s so hard to pick a favorite professor/teacher! I love Professor McGonagall, but I’m currently reading Tales from the Shadow Hunter Academy and I’m really liking Catarina Loss, the warlock teacher.

.

This post is late, but it’s never too late for Harry Potter! 😁 It rained today and it’s supposed to rain for the better part of this week. I’m really loving this kind of weather, but it pretty much means taking pictures are few and far between!

.

Hogwarts is my home is from the September @owlcrate and my one-of-a-kind handmade wand was a gift from my friend Maeva @readinginhongkong.
