Bullet Journal Challenge: Holiday Planning

I can’t believe how fast this month is going by! There’s also so much going on before the end of the year. I’m keeping up as best as I can, but honestly, I wouldn’t be able to remember everything if it wasn’t for my bullet journal! I modified my monthly overview by using the events section to keep track of what food to bring for the holiday parties we’ll be going to next week. I’ll be doing my menu planning this weekend and I’ll add the ingredients to my shopping list for this week. .

I’ve also got other lists (not pictured) of the people I need gifts for and what gifts I’ve already bought. I don’t know about you, but do you ever buy a Christmas gift and then forget who it’s meant for? 😅 Fortunately, it hasn’t happened too often, but since I’m old, I can’t really rely on memory as much. 😳

.

Are you all ready for the holidays? I still have tons of decorating and wrapping of the presents to do. 🎄🎅🏽🎁 Its raining and it’s Friday. I hope you’re Friday is going well so far!

Bullet Journal Challenge: I love planning because…

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about planning. To be honest, I’ve let it slide to the way side these past few months because of a lot of family and real life stuff going on. Then I was in a planning slump and eventually I decided that instead of letting myself feel overwhelmed by ALL THE THINGS, I needed to stop making excuses and moderate my reading time (because I tend to read to the point where nothing gets done when I’m stressed) and look at the things I wanted to get done before the year ends. That was a wake up call! With the year ending in a matter of days, I got in gear! .

So far, I’ve made great progress on my Christmas shopping. I actually took the time to write out lists of all the gifts needed. I also wrote out another list for the food we’d need to bring to the various potluck parties for our families. This was a big part of my holiday stress and I feel like it’s more manageable now.

.

I’ve resumed my reread of my WIP and had set a goal of rereading five chapters per week. I’ve actually gone past my goal and I’ve got only four more chapters to reread and then I’ll start outlining and writing again. I dreaded rereading my WIP because it’s 65k words so far and I wasn’t sure if it was as good as I remember. 😆 Now, I’m fired up and I’ve realized that I’m pretty awesome. 😏

.

I love planning because it alleviates a lot of stress and I feel like I’m accomplishing a lot when I can actually see all the X’s on my task lists. I also love planning because even if you get in a slump, it’s always there when you’re ready to start again.

.

I was thinking of doing a flip through on my InstaStory of my notebooks. Let me know in the comments, if you’re interested.

.

My daughter still has a fever. 😟 I’ll be staying home with her while her brothers go to their aunts’ house for a gingerbread house decorating party. She’s young enough that she won’t really know what she’s missing out on but still. 😟 I hope you all are having a great day so far!

Bullet Journal Challenge: Everday and Tracking

One of my go-to layouts in my #writersbulletjournal is my #currentreads tracker. My daily goal for reading is to read at least twenty minutes a day. My monthly goal is to read 3-4 books a month. My goal for the year was 24 books. I started using this layout in January and I actually surpassed my goals in April! 🙌🏽 I never thought I’d get to read this much! I’m a stay-at-home and an aspiring writer, but reading has always been important to me. It benefits me both as a person and a writer, so I made a commitment to myself to read daily. I’ll admit, sometimes I meet just the twenty minutes. Sometimes I don’t and sometimes I go way past twenty minutes. .

There’s another part to my reading tracker that’s not featured and it’s called my Genre Tracker. In addition to reading every day, I also wanted to make sure that I read outside my comfort zone. I listed all the genres that I wanted to try this year and each month, I target a genre that I want to tackle. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t accomplished this goal. 😅Fantasy, I can’t quit you! 😩

.

For writing, I’m not doing Nano, but instead I’m dedicating this month to rereading my draft to build up momentum again for the ending. I got close to the ending a couple of months ago (65k+ words), but I got discouraged because the story was going in a direction I had not imagined. For a planner girl like me, it was really hard coming to terms with the fact that I just had to let the story tell itself. So, this month my goal is to read 5 chapters a week of my WIP. I wrote on my WIP calendar which chapters I should be reading each week. Then I just mark on the day which chapter was read and make notes in my revision notebook.

.

Featured also are my #currentreads at the moment. I’m enjoying this TBR SO much and having a blast buddy reading with Vicky @zoetzure, Natasha @shotmeinthebook and Syd @deertales!

Bullet Journal Challenge: My “why”

If you’re new here, HELLO! Besides reading and writing, I’m a total planner girl! I started using a planner in college to try to keep up with assignments and tests. I continued using one when I was a teacher and eventually moved on to bullet journaling. I have a Leuchtturm 1917 @leuchtturm1917 notebook for my writing and reading life. I also use a Traveler’s Notebook for real life planning..

Both of these systems work so well for the different aspects of my character. I commend those who can keep it all in one place. I like clearly defined work areas. My writer self loves having the LT1917 which stays on my desk and comes out when I’m writing. My mommy self loves the portability of the TN and also having different inserts to organize appointments and other household items.

.

Pictured are some of my favorite tools: I’m loving the Papermate Inkjoy gel inks @papermate_inkjoys and of course washi tape. My current on deck choices are fall/Halloween style tapes. I found these particular styles at Target, Michaels, and Daiso. Also pictured is the Supernatural themed “Yesterday was Tuesday, right?” notepad from the September @nerdy.post. I love having notepads on hand to jot down tasks for later.

.

How’s your Saturday going? I checked out The Lightening Thief audiobook from the library and my older sons LOVE it. I’ve been playing it for them all morning and they do not want to do anything else, but listen! This day has been long in coming. I’m so glad I can share this series with them now.

Bullet Journal Challenge: Monthly Overview

For the #planwithmechallenge, Monthly overview, I decided to change the way I do my monthly. I had originally incorporated a tracker into my monthly overview to help keep track of my writing activities. When I first used it, it was really helpful in seeing what I was good at doing (social media updates and reading) and what I needed to do more of (writing and journaling). For the last two months I was trying to figure out how to make my monthly overview work better for me. I realized my needs had changed and I had to revise my monthly overview..

Instead of having a tracker in my monthly, I went back to basics and set up the traditional bullet journal monthly overview. What I want to do is set actionable goals this month to finish my first draft. In my notes/overview section, I plan to write down my goals there and keep notes on what I accomplished that week. I’m still keeping to my 1 hour a day of writing, but I’m going to add a word count goal for the week. Since it’s quantifiable, it’s given me something to shoot for (which I need to get on!).

Washi tape is from Target and Michael’s. (The crows tape came in a Halloween set from Michael’s. It reminded me of Six of Crows!) Pen/make up pouch from @lunabluebags.

In case you missed it, I’m hosting the last and major washi tape flash giveaway from @pretty.packages giveaway. Check out the previous post for details. And this time, it’s INTERNATIONAL! Hurry because the giveaway closes on Thursday at midnight PST.

Bullet Journal Challenge: Introduction

Here’s my introduction for the October #planwithmechallenge. My name is Jennifer and I’ve been bullet journaling for a year now. It took me several months to figure out how to make bullet journaling work for me, but when I did, I just ran with it!.

Pictured here are my two planning systems: my #writersbulletjournal in my Leuchtthurm 1917 @leuchtturm1917 and my Traveler’s Notebook #keelindori handcrafted by @ImperfectlyPerfekt for my real life/mommy life. I keep both separate because each of these parts of my personality needs her own space. My writer self loves the notebook grid format of the LT1917 for managing tasks for my WIP and reading goals. My mommy self loves the separate inserts in my Keelindori Traveler’s Notebook for planning appointments/events, budget tracking, menu planning, and keeping track what’s in stock in our household supplies. I also love the portability of the Traveler’s Notebook because I bring it with me whenever I’m out running errands.

.

I’m also a former middle school English teacher and currently a stay-at-home for our four children ages 9 years old and under. I love reading and collecting books 😏, and I’m currently working on my first novel—a YA fantasy inspired by ancient Filipino culture. I don’t have much spare time, but when I do, I like to practice lettering and I’ve been trying art journaling as another creative outlet. I also barrage my friends with frantic messages/texts over characters and books—heavy on the emojis too. 😆

.

Stickers on my LT1917 notebook and “We’re All Mad Here” keychain charm on my Keelindori are from @wandwitchandwizard. Check out Maeva’s shop for other bookish themed stickers and accessories! She also has some fantastic handmade bookish wands. Use REP10 code for a 10% discount on your purchase. She has FREE international shipping!

Washi tape is from @pretty.packages. Make sure to check back Wednesday for a flash giveaway from her store!

September Wrap-Up

Here I was thinking that the summer was going by so fast and things would slow down in September. NOPE. And now that it’s October (tomorrow), you know it’s going to just fly by because once Halloween hits, the year just slips by like sand through your fingers. I’m not sure i’m ready for it!.

Here’s a wrap up of some of the challenges for September:

.

For #septemberfantasychallenge, Where would you store your treasure? Lonely Mountain, Gringotts, or The Treasure Room? I’d have to say Gringotts because at least it would be easier to get your treasure out. Smaug would burn you dead and The Treasure Room, I’m not sure what series this is in reference too, but if it’s GOT then no because I hear everyone eventually dies in that series.

.

For #grimdragon, Star Wars vs. Star Trek. DUDES. This is hard. Is it possible to be both? I know. I never can make a decision. But see, Star Wars were the movies of my childhood. Princess Leia was one of the few female characters when I was a kid that was smart and made things happen—a very unique role in the early ‘80s. Star Trek: Next Generation helped get me through my senior year of high school. STNG was a nice escape and if I’m honest, Will Crusher was nice to look at too. 😏

.

For #livelaughbooksseptember, September Wrap-up. So here are the books I’ve read for September. Other books not pictured (because they were library books that had to go back): Saga volumes 3 and 4. I can honestly say that I enjoyed all of these books. Definite 4 and 5 star reads! Don’t make me pick a favorite because you know how bad I am at that! If you want to know more about any of these titles, comment below so we can chat/fangirl.

.

For #planwithmechallenge, September Review. As you can see from my #jennfsreadingtracker, I had an incredible month of reading (10 books this month). I had to change my Reading Challenge Goal on Goodreads (again) because I was one book away from reaching it and it was only September. My original reading goal for the year was 25 and since then it’s been raised to 70. My main goal for October is to get back on track with my novel writing. August and September pretty much blind sided me with ALL THE THINGS. I’m trying not to be too hard on myself and just keep taking, or writing in this case, one day at a time.
