Bullet Journal Challenge: Monthly Overview

For the #planwithmechallenge, Monthly overview, I decided to change the way I do my monthly. I had originally incorporated a tracker into my monthly overview to help keep track of my writing activities. When I first used it, it was really helpful in seeing what I was good at doing (social media updates and reading) and what I needed to do more of (writing and journaling). For the last two months I was trying to figure out how to make my monthly overview work better for me. I realized my needs had changed and I had to revise my monthly overview..

Instead of having a tracker in my monthly, I went back to basics and set up the traditional bullet journal monthly overview. What I want to do is set actionable goals this month to finish my first draft. In my notes/overview section, I plan to write down my goals there and keep notes on what I accomplished that week. I’m still keeping to my 1 hour a day of writing, but I’m going to add a word count goal for the week. Since it’s quantifiable, it’s given me something to shoot for (which I need to get on!).

Bullet Journal Challenge: Introduction

Here’s my introduction for the October #planwithmechallenge. My name is Jennifer and I’ve been bullet journaling for a year now. It took me several months to figure out how to make bullet journaling work for me, but when I did, I just ran with it!.

Pictured here are my two planning systems: my #writersbulletjournal in my Leuchtthurm 1917 @leuchtturm1917 and my Traveler’s Notebook #keelindori handcrafted by @ImperfectlyPerfekt for my real life/mommy life. I keep both separate because each of these parts of my personality needs her own space. My writer self loves the notebook grid format of the LT1917 for managing tasks for my WIP and reading goals. My mommy self loves the separate inserts in my Keelindori Traveler’s Notebook for planning appointments/events, budget tracking, menu planning, and keeping track what’s in stock in our household supplies. I also love the portability of the Traveler’s Notebook because I bring it with me whenever I’m out running errands.

.

I’m also a former middle school English teacher and currently a stay-at-home for our four children ages 9 years old and under. I love reading and collecting books 😏, and I’m currently working on my first novel—a YA fantasy inspired by ancient Filipino culture. I don’t have much spare time, but when I do, I like to practice lettering and I’ve been trying art journaling as another creative outlet. I also barrage my friends with frantic messages/texts over characters and books—heavy on the emojis too. 😆

.

Stickers on my LT1917 notebook and “We’re All Mad Here” keychain charm on my Keelindori are from @wandwitchandwizard. Check out Maeva’s shop for other bookish themed stickers and accessories! She also has some fantastic handmade bookish wands. Use REP10 code for a 10% discount on your purchase. She has FREE international shipping!

Washi tape is from @pretty.packages. Make sure to check back Wednesday for a flash giveaway from her store!

September Wrap-Up

Here I was thinking that the summer was going by so fast and things would slow down in September. NOPE. And now that it’s October (tomorrow), you know it’s going to just fly by because once Halloween hits, the year just slips by like sand through your fingers. I’m not sure i’m ready for it!.

Here’s a wrap up of some of the challenges for September:

.

For #septemberfantasychallenge, Where would you store your treasure? Lonely Mountain, Gringotts, or The Treasure Room? I’d have to say Gringotts because at least it would be easier to get your treasure out. Smaug would burn you dead and The Treasure Room, I’m not sure what series this is in reference too, but if it’s GOT then no because I hear everyone eventually dies in that series.

.

For #grimdragon, Star Wars vs. Star Trek. DUDES. This is hard. Is it possible to be both? I know. I never can make a decision. But see, Star Wars were the movies of my childhood. Princess Leia was one of the few female characters when I was a kid that was smart and made things happen—a very unique role in the early ‘80s. Star Trek: Next Generation helped get me through my senior year of high school. STNG was a nice escape and if I’m honest, Will Crusher was nice to look at too. 😏

.

For #livelaughbooksseptember, September Wrap-up. So here are the books I’ve read for September. Other books not pictured (because they were library books that had to go back): Saga volumes 3 and 4. I can honestly say that I enjoyed all of these books. Definite 4 and 5 star reads! Don’t make me pick a favorite because you know how bad I am at that! If you want to know more about any of these titles, comment below so we can chat/fangirl.

.

For #planwithmechallenge, September Review. As you can see from my #jennfsreadingtracker, I had an incredible month of reading (10 books this month). I had to change my Reading Challenge Goal on Goodreads (again) because I was one book away from reaching it and it was only September. My original reading goal for the year was 25 and since then it’s been raised to 70. My main goal for October is to get back on track with my novel writing. August and September pretty much blind sided me with ALL THE THINGS. I’m trying not to be too hard on myself and just keep taking, or writing in this case, one day at a time.

Journal Challenge: October

I can’t even believe that October is next week! 😨 Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Didn’t we just start school yesterday? .

And because October is coming soon, it’s time to start reviewing what’s working and what’s not this month so I can make modifications in my layouts for next month. The biggest modification I’m thinking of making is whether or not I should start a separate notebook just for collections. I’d keep my trackers in my #writersbulletjournal along with my monthly and daily spreads, but I like the idea of putting notes on books, writing and also lists of challenges in a separate notebook. I think I’ll try this in an insert first as a low risk attempt before doing this in a more permanent notebook.

.

I’d love to hear what you all are thinking of trying out in your journals for October! Let me know in the comments.

.

And even though I live in Southern California, I like to pretend that we get fall here. So here’s an autumnal #bookombre to go with my fall journal layout theme. 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁

Book Challenge: Books Read with a Friend

For the #grimdragon challenge, books read with a friend, I’ve actually buddy read quite a few books this year. I’ve had so much fun reading with a bookish friend who completely understands why all the feels. It’s also nice to be able to look at the book and think about the friends you experienced reading such great stories with. I tagged the wonderful ladies I’ve read these books with over the summer. Thank you for reading with me! We have to do it again soon!.

Also, to help me keep track of my buddy reads, I keep an ongoing list of which book and friend I’m reading with for each month. I’ve planned as far as two months in advanced before and it’s helped me stay organized and plan accordingly.

I’ll be reading with @gameofpotterbooks and @a_tad_bit_bookish for October! (Jen, I’ll get back to you about which book!) I still have November and December open for buddy reads! Omg. I can’t believe how fast this year is going!😳

.

I’m hosting a flash giveaway for some washi tape from @pretty.packages on Wednesdays. If you’d like to see a preview for tomorrow’s set that’s being given away, check out my story. Pictured are some of my favorite styles from her store!

Bullet Journal Challenge: At Home

In a previous post, I shared how I won a blog giveaway hosted Kacheri by @passion.themed.life. If you saw my story, the prizes were amazing! You can see some of it if you scroll down my feed. Such an incredible giveaway!.

One of the items in the giveaway was for this gorgeous Traveler’s notebook from Imperfectly Perfekt @imperfectlyperfekt. Kacheri also included this handmade cover with a pen holder for it. I’ve been using these for a week and it’s been an absolute dream! I love the sturdy leather cover and the gorgeous details of the floral design. Check out J. Caoilfhionn Marie’s page to see her work. Her Etsy shop opens on Sundays at 5pm EST. If you want to get your hands on one of her covers, make sure to set your alarm because she sells out fast! I’m so grateful that I won this one!

.

For the #planwithmechallenge, At home, this is pretty much my planner system for real life/mommy stuff. I use four inserts: bullet journal for tasks and events, nerd gear budget tracker, menu planner, and one that is an inventory of what we have stocked in the pantry, freezer, etc. I carry this with me wherever I go. My inserts are from Moleskine and Maybooks.

.

Also featured is washi tape from @pretty.packages. In case you missed it, I’ve been having weekly flash giveaways of washi tape from Becca’s store. This week’s winner will be announced Saturday. I will post a preview of the other sets that will be given away later during the weekend.

.

I’m so glad it’s Friday! What are your plans for this weekend? I’m going to a signing for Sabaa Tahir on Saturday and I’m pretty much going to be useless for the rest of the year afterward because Sabaa Tahir. 🙌🏽

Bullet Journal Challenge: At work

For the #planwithmechallenge prompt, At work, I’m a stay-at-home, but I’m also a writer. When I’m writing, I have notebooks that I use to help me write my novel. It looks like a lot, but it makes sense to me..

When I first started writing my book, I started with a traveler’s notebook to take notes during my research. Then when I started writing my novel, I needed a way to gauge my progress, so I created a WIP notebook where I track my daily word count on a monthly calendar and write my story notes and word counts as my dailies. Then I record my word count on my Novel Log which gives me an overview during the year of my novel progress. I use my my #writersbulletjournal for all my reading, writing, and social media tasks.

.

Notebooks featured: Moleskine cahier and notebook, lined @molskine_world. Leuchtthrum 1917 squared @leuchtthrum. Pens: Papermate Inkjoy @papermate_inkjoy

.

Thanks to everyone who entered the flash giveaway! I’ll post the winner on Saturday! One more day until the weekend! 🙌🏽
