January Owlcrate Unboxing: Fearsome Fairytales

What’s one of your anticipated reads this year?

.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black @blackholly was one of the most hyped books last year for 2018 so of course I was curious and eager to read it! Imagine my surprise and joy when it turned out to be the book for the @owlcrate January “Fearsome Fairytales” box! I’m so excited to buddy read this with my girl Anna @fairravens! I’ve already read the first few chapters and so far I’m enjoying the world building and the characters.

.

Included were several goodies: a Sleeping Beauty inspired pillowcase by @stellabookishart, a wax burner designed by Owlcrate accompanied by Hansel and Gretal wax melts by @spireside, a Rapunzel inspired charm bracelet by @authoradornment, a monthly postcard with collectible Owlcrate pin by @spykles, and my favorite piece—a stunning rendition art print of Little Red Riding Hood by @annelambelet. Swipe to the next slide to see a close-up!

.

Thank you so much Korrina and Team Owlcrate for always anticipating my bookish needs! I can’t wait for February’s theme “Hidden Worlds”!

.

Anyone else running like Dr. Ellie Sattler through the week toward the weekend like it’s the perfect hideout from velociraptors? 🏃🏽‍♀️🦖😊

October TBR

My TBR is pretty fluid but I do stay on track for the most part thanks to my reading tracker. And audiobooks–I’ve been able to finish so many books this way! (I’d give you a percentage on my completion rate before and after I started listening to audiobooks, but I’m not going to even pretend that I can math right now. Or ever. But it’s a lot.).

And just so you know, in case you can’t already tell, I will read almost anything (nonfiction is still a struggle for me). YA is my favorite but I also love fantasy (middle grade, YA, and Adult).

.

But in the last two months I’ve branched out into two genres that I haven’t tried–Political thriller and Stephen King. I picked up the Mitch Trapp series by Vince Flynn and so far I’m really enjoying it. And yes, I think Stephen King is his own genre. I’m reading Revival (for the #grimdragon Read Along), IT (buddy read with @zoetzure) and The Drawing of Three (bc I want to know what’s going to happen to Roland). The only writing convention his books conform to is his own distinct style of storytelling and his flawed characters that you can’t help cheering for. You really can’t put King in one genre which is really quite brilliant. (Clearly, I’m still in the honeymoon stage of discovering a new to me author. Let’s see what happens when the gang returns to Derry or Roland gets to the Dark Tower or what’s Reverend Jacob’s sermon going to be before he leaves.)

.

How do you pick your TBR? Have you tried any new to you authors lately that surprised you?

.

Pre-birthday celebration with my sister today–lunch and a book signing! Have a great day!

Weekend Update & Book Sleeves!

I don’t do outfit of the day kind of posts that often, but when I do, I try to stay bookish. Or at least attempt to be bookish. 😆 And what luck! I can use this post for two challenges! .

For #grimdragon, Into the void: camouflaged/hidden books! Inside my @bookbeau is the book I’m buddy reading with my girl Anna @fairravenbooks. It’s a YA fantasy inspired by feudal Japanese culture and features a heroine who has been compared to Mulan! I am behind in our buddy read (I promise to catch up soon, Anna!), but I’m enjoying it so far. Anyone like to guess the book?

.

For #ocmyths, Bookbeau adventure! This was actually the Bookbeau that was in the September box Mythical Creatures. Korrina, I don’t know how you do it, but you always put something in my Owlcrate that I needed in my life! I used this book sleeve right away! Here it is in the garden center at our local hardware store. (Reasons why I was there explained below.) How did I live life for so long without book sleeves?!

.

I hope you’re all having a great weekend! This morning we went to the local hardware store because they were having a Frankenpumpkin craft for kids which pretty much means they got to stick bolts and screws and staples into pumpkins. They turned out pretty cute! Tomorrow, for a pre-birthday celebration, I’m grabbing lunch with my sister and mom and then heading to a book signing with my sister for CB Lee, Sarah Kuhn, and Maurene Goo!

Nerdy Post Unboxing: June Anniversary box

Okay. So I don’t think I’ll be spoiling anyone with this. (Remember: better late than never, right? 😆) This is my unboxing for the JUNE One Year Anniversary @nerdy.post box. It was such an amazing anniversary box..

I can’t even handle this Firefly poster! 😭 Browncoats forever! And these Supernatural wax melts? Alexis said she basically wanted it to smell like Dean and I’m 100% okay with that. And then the Princess Laia fat bookmark with Dr. Who on the back? 💀 It’s absolutely perfect! Eleven’s waffle coaster is fantastic too! So many good items! Swipe through to see them.

.

I got my AUGUST box Back to Hogwarts and I can’t wait to share my unboxing with you! It is amazing. (Don’t worry. No spoilers here.) September’s box is Pixar/Dreamworks and if you want to see a preview of what’s inside, check out @nerdy.post. Ready to sign up? Visit my girl Kori @_livelaughread on Instagram for a discount code!

Supernatural Funko Pops and The Demon’s Lexicon

Any Supernatural fans here? We’re long time fans but took a break when kids happened and we just started catching up on the show. We’re currently on season 8 and loving it but the feels! 😭I wish the Winchester boys could get a break!😢.

My SIL recommended The Demon’s Lexicon by Sarah Reese Brennan because she said it was a lot like Supernatural. Two brothers whose father is dead and whose mother is crazy but who is also being hunted by demons hired by magicians? YES PLEASE. Sounds like I’d enjoy this a lot!

.

I may have also put this post together to show off my Dean and Sam Funkos. 😏 Dean came up as a deal on Amazon Prime Day for $8 so I said take my money and of course I had to get Sam too! Also featured are a bookmark, tattoos, and a Dean and Sam sticker from the Supernatural @nerdy.post.

.

Random fact: My son is named after Dean and my youngest was almost named Sam but we went with Sophie instead after Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle. #nerdparentsrepresent

.

Scroll through to see close ups of Sam and Dean and @nerdy.post swag. Also, I’ve included the Goodreads summary for The Demon’s Lexicon in the last slide.

.

Anyone read this yet? Who’s your favorite Supernatural character?

.

Happy Sunday! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic weekend! Our date night for our anniversary turned out to be a family night that involved Funkos, books, and froyo which actually was a lot of fun. I managed to pick up some SDCC exclusive Funko Pops that I’m excited to share with you guys soon! (I can’t believe how many Funkos I bought this month.🙈)

.

Owlcrate Unboxing: July “Make it Out Alive”

I got some fantastic book mail today! My July @owlcrate arrived and I can’t wait to share it with you. I realized I hadn’t shared my June Owlcrate and thought this is the perfect time. Last month’s theme was Make it Out Alive! Such a fantastic box!.

I’m so excited for last month’s book The Sandcastle Empire. It’s a YA dystopia story about survival in a world taken over by a revolutionary group. We were lucky to also get a second book from @oftomes New World Rising. I’ve had my eye on this book for a while and was thrilled to receive it in last month’s Owlcrate.

.

And the goodies? I love the gorgeous double sided ACOWAR bookmark by Hey Atlas Creative @treehouseofbooks. The zombie sleep mask cracks me up! And The Giver patch nearly had me crying because I used to read The Giver with my students which I really enjoyed doing. Of course, being trash for Sabaa Tahir, my favorite item was the Ember in the Ashes inspired magnet “Fear is your enemy only if you allow it to be” designed by @littleinklingdesigns! I love Megan’s handlettered bookmarks and was happy to have this! Make sure to scroll down to see close-ups of the goodies!

.

The July theme was Wanderlust and friends, I don’t know how Korinna does it, but every month she always gives me something I’m hoping for and sometimes things I didn’t know until I got it in an Owlcrate! This month one of my most anticipating releases was included and I nearly died when I saw it. I can’t wait to share it with you!

.

Happy Friday! I hope your week was good and that you have fun plans for the weekend! Today is our wedding anniversary (16 years). We’re going to have date night Saturday to see Spider-Man and afterward (hopefully) try some ice-cream tacos!

.

What’s your most anticipated read this year? What are your plans for the weekend?

Unboxing May @nerdypost: Maas theme

I’m late, but here’s my unboxing for the May @nerdy.post! (I post my unboxings late bc I hate to spoil it for others.) The theme was MAAS and Alexis captured her books so well! Scroll down to see close-ups of the prints, buttons, and pin! .

So many goodies! My favorite is the ACOMAF bookmark done by guest artist Brittney @reverieandink. I love this quote! We also had a special surprise–a second poster from Tahira @tjlubrano of Abraxos. I love her work! Both of these ladies have their work for sale! Check out their profiles to see more!

.

The June Nerdy post was Alexis’s 1 year anniversary box with multiple fandoms represented. It was amazing! I can’t wait to share that with you guys! And did you hear July’s theme? It’s Alice in Wonderland. I know there are big fans of this book in this community, so make sure you sign up!

.

I hope you’re all have a fantastic Thursday! What’s your favorite box subscription? What fandom merchandise can you not live without?
