#booksnotbullies: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Aliré Saenz

Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great week so far! Does it seem like May is just flying by? I feel like this whole year is! .

I finished Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Aliré Saenz earlier this week and thought it would be perfect to share for We Post Blue on Wednesdays for #booksnotbullies. I enjoyed this story so much. Benjamin Aliré Saenz has such a lyrical writing style and a talent for conveying emotion just with dialogue. But best of all are his characters! Ari and Dante are such well-written characters. Opposites on the surface, but as you read and learn more about them, you see how much they have in common and how their friendship is so dynamic. The themes of cultural and sexual identities and how they influence each other are done poignantly through Ari and Dante’s friendship and also their parents’ love and support.

.

The writing was already beautiful, but the narration of the audio book by Lin Manuel Miranda just added more magic to the story. He characterized Ari and Dante and captured the humor and poignancy of the story so well that it was a true pleasure listening to the story. I already know I’ll be listening to it again.

.

If you’re looking for diverse reads, this is a perfect book, but honestly, it’s also a perfect book that shows how we can all love others without prejudice toward their race/ethnicity, gender, and/sexual identity. 🌈

.

Have you read Ari and Dante’s story? If not, I hope you do soon!
