Book Challenge: Diverse Reads

You know what’s awesome? YOU. 😁 I hope you’re all having a great week so far! We’re on Spring Break, but today was spent getting the house back to rights and grocery shopping. Now that the adulting is done, we can spend the rest of the week funning! Yay!.
For #thehamiltonedition “Immigrants, we get the job done!”–Diverse reads! I don’t know what I did with my life before I found Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older, but I’m so glad I found it! I love the dialogue and characters. Sierra is an artist who lives in Brooklyn and is sassy and smart. I also love how the author shows how Sierra sometimes struggles with her American upbringing and Puerto Rican heritage–how to be both without ignoring the other.
.
For #watermelanerdsapril Magic: This book is also an urban paranormal fantasy. It incorporates a type of spiritual magic–the ability to call on the spirits of the dead and have them exist in a form like a painting and sculpture. The people who can call on spirits this way are called Shadowshapers. Sierra discovers that her grandfather is involved and that she has to help him carry out what he started.

.

I’m still reading this but I’m enjoying it. If you’ve read it, what did you think? No spoilers please! What are some other diverse reads that you’ve enjoyed?
